Russian banks increased Mir card issuing sharply in 2022

This is stated in the report of Inna Solovieva, Head of Department for National Payment System Development and Regulation, Bank of Russia. According to the Central Bank, due to the departure of Visa and Mastercard, the pace of issuing new cards of the national payment system accelerated twice as much. In 2021, the number of cards in issue grew by 19.6% to reach 113.6 million. By the end of Q1 2022, 125 million Mir cards were issued. With the latest data from the Central Bank taken into account, the number of new plastic cards increased by 28.8% (by 36 million) from April to October (Q2 and Q3). In total, the growth for the three quarters of this year reached 42%, that is 47.4 million cards.
