The Mir payment system expands the mobile payments applicability – starting from October 26, banks issuing the national cards will be able to start the technical implementation of the Google Pay service.

According to the technology bulletin of the payment system, this will allow Mir card holders to tokenize the cards on Android-powered devices to perform transactions using the service, Izvestia reports.

Google Pay will allow purchases to be paid for at retail outlets without presenting a Mir card, just by tapping an NFC enabled smartphone on the terminal. Also, it will allow payments in online stores to be made without entering payment details. Support of the innovation is mandatory for both Russian and foreign banks which issue the national cards, perform their tokenization and are connected to the Google Pay service.

Now you can pay with a smartphone through Android based Mir Pay and Samsung Pay applications. Since April 27, banks have been able to tokenize national plastic cards on Apple devices for payments through Apple Pay.
