Mir cards now accepted in Turkey
Starting from April 18, Mir cardholders can pay with their cards in Turkey, announced Russia’s National Payment Card System (NSPK) CEO Vladimir Komlev speaking at the XIII International Conference “Payment Industry: Practice and Transformation.”
According to V. Komlev, the agreement on the Mir card acceptance has been reached with Türkiye İş Bankası (İş Bank). Testing was completed successfully on April 17. Mir card payments are seamless and instant.
More than 10 thousand online stores, over 40 thousand retail outlets and 6500 ATMs of İşbank, operating the largest acquiring network in Turkey, will accept Mir cards. Tourists can withdraw cash at any İş Bank ATM and use their Mir cards to pay for air tickets and hotel accommodation.
Another Turkish bank is going to join the Mir card acceptance network soon, V. Komlev says.
CEO of NSPK (the Mir payment system operator) Vladimir Komlev said: “For many years, Turkey has been one of the most attractive tourist destinations for Russians. In 2018 alone, Russians made more than 5.8 million trips to this country. As a result of our joint fruitful work with İş Bank, one of the largest Turkish acquirers, the bank’s fleet will have been prepared for handling Mir cards by the beginning of this holiday season, so that holders of Russian payment cards will be able to perform all their customary payment operations.”
İş Bank Deputy General Manager Yalçın Sezen said “The Mir cards acceptance by our bank in Turkey will make handling Russian visitors’ payments easier for our merchants engaged in transport, tourism and retail sectors. As for e-commerce, this cooperation will promptly open the Russian market for our manufacturers and increase the transaction volume on the market thanks to fast and secure acquiring. We attach great importance to cross-border payments, in compliance with our stand on online commerce. To bring Turkish businesses to the global market, we go out of our way to support payment solutions that empower online sale of goods and services. With the Mir cards acceptance functionality implemented in İş Bank devices, we also enable our guests from Russia to buy air tickets, pay for hotel accommodation, make purchases and withdraw cash 24/7 across our country-wide ATM network. Such cooperation between İş Bank and Mir, which brings together Turkish merchants and Russian consumers, is of great importance. I believe such cooperation will allow us to expand and simplify trade, increase the volume of e-commerce sales between Russia and Turkey and effect settlements in national currencies through the national payment system.”
