On December 11, 2024, Article 272.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation came into force. It introduces criminal liability for the illegal use, transfer, collection, storage of computer information containing personal data, as well as the creating and running information resources intended for its illegal storage and distribution. Besides, Article 13.11 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses is amended to include the following: “Violation of the Russian Federation laws on personal data”. The amendment comes into force on May 30, 2025.
