VTB and Visa launch pay-by-glance service

VTB and Visa have launched a service to pay for orders in a St. Petersburg chain of culinary shops without a smartphone or card – just by a glance. The service is implemented on the basis of O.Pay, a face recognition technology solution from the O.Vision company.

To connect to the service, the client needs to install the O.Vision application on his/her smartphone and go through the procedure for saving face biometrics by linking the card to the service. All the culinary shops in the chain are equipped with special terminals, where the client just needs to look at the camera to pay for orders. The service is available to cardholders of any payment systems and issuing banks.

Tested on a database exceeding 1 million of biometric registrations of persons, the O.Vision identification algorithm ensures the correct operation of the service. The request goes Instantly through several stages of processing in the system - from identifying the client's face to verifying its authenticity and making a decision on payment.

Thus, shoppers can pay without a smartphone or card. The service expands the range of contactless payment methods available to customers and makes the service process faster.

“New solutions allow retailers not only to improve the user experience, but also open more opportunities for the development of their own ecosystem in the long run. “The pilot with O.Vision will allow us to test face recognition technology for payments, assess its maturity, accuracy and speed of recognition algorithms that ensure payment security. The solution has a built-in antispoofing system, which makes it possible to exclude changing the identity when paying by face,” notes Sergey Bezbogov, Head of Technological Changes Management and Coordination at VTB Bank
