Telephone fraud in Russia remains at high level of 6-7 million calls per day
The number of fraudulent calls to Russian citizens remains at 6-7 million per day and goes down very slowly, Sberbank Deputy Board Chairman Stanislav Kuznetsov said speaking in the Federation Council.
“Last year saw a record number of calls: in March 2024 we recorded slightly over 20 million calls per day – an unprecedented figure, the largest one in the world,” he said.
“For several months now, the telephone fraud level in the country has been about 6-7 million per day. This is a constant figure. Those are millions of calls per day, and those millions of calls are being cut down today very slowly,” Kuznetsov noted.
While the phone number spoofing problem had been resolved, the use of other scam technologies still stays ahead of the Russian restrictive regulations, he stressed.
According to Sberbank estimates, the damage to citizens from cyber fraud in 2024 amounted to 295 billion rubles in Russia as a whole, Kuznetsov added.
