Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Board Chairman, Sberbank:
“Fake is an age mate of humanity, deepfake is a modern newborn monster able to cause much more catastrophic consequences for people and entire countries. Previously, cheating was committed by a small group of scammers. Today, anyone who knows how to use technology can create a deepfake. The scale is completely different. We are on the verge of a colossal revolution in criminal disinformation. In six months or a year, the last barrier will disappear - the language barrier. Cyber fraudsters from different countries will be able to call any European country and, speaking in the language of this country fluently and without an accent, deceive its citizens. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in deepfake recognition technologies before deepfakes happen and are sent to the user, and not after that.”
Stanislav Kuznetsov also noted that human perception is the foundation for any fake. People willingly believe in what they want to believe. All the scenarios and preparations that cyber fraudsters invent and throw in are designed to blow a hole in this weak spot of human psychology. Therefore, he once again reminded about the need for a systematic increase in cyber literacy.
The discussion was moderated by Alexey Goreslavsky, General Director of the Internet Development Institute. Among the participants were journalist Hubert Seipel, Director of the Information and Press Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova, head of the G.O.R.K.I. center (Geopolitical observatory for Russia’s key issues) of St. Petersburg State University, former (2017–2019) Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Karin Kneissl, General Director of the Dialogue Center Vladimir Tabak, geopolitician, journalist, specialist in global economics and international relations Pepe Escobar, and Deputy Chairperson of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Yarovaya.
