Sri Lanka develops mechanism for Mir card adoption

“This issue is still under discussion, we need to get approval from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka,” she said.

However, it is already known that “in about one or two months” Russians will be able to open accounts with People’s Bank Sri Lanka, one of the largest banks in the country. This is negotiated with the credit organization Natsinvestprombank.

When this happens, citizens of the Russian Federation will be able to remotely arrange the issue of Visa and Mastercard by People's Bank cards and receive them upon arrival in the country at one of the 743 bank’s branches.

It is yet unknown how such cards can be replenished in Russia and whether they can be used for payments outside of Sri Lanka.
