69% of survey participants in Russia encountered scammers on the Internet

According to the survey, 69% of respondents personally encountered online fraud. 17% only read about it in the news, 11% of respondents have friends who “got acquainted” with cyber threats, and 3% believe that this happens only in movies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, after recent talks with the US President, called cybersecurity one of the most important issues of our time. The Rambler & Co media holding found out how Russian Internet users assess their knowledge of cybersecurity.
Most of survey participants (69%) have personally encountered online fraud. 17% only read about it in the news, 11% of respondents have friends who “got acquainted” with cyber threats, and 3% believe that this happens only in movies.
All respondents try to protect themselves and their personal data. Almost a third (30%) do not communicate on the Internet with anyone whom they do not know personally, 23% visit trusted and reliable sites only, 19% rely on antiviruses, 18% do not submit their personal data online. At the same time, only every tenth survey participants regularly change passwords.
When faced with online fraudsters, 35% of respondents insist that they can solve the problem on their own. 24% do not have a clear plan of action, the same number of respondents would call the police first. 10% will ask for help from their Internet provider, 7% - from an IT specialist they know.
52% of respondents believe that online financial transactions are secure if performed on official websites. 30% doubt that the Internet is reliable enough for money transfers. 11% of respondents only use online banking services, but do not make purchases. 7% are sure that the bank will protect their money in any dangerous situation.
A quarter of respondents admit that they lack knowledge about cybersecurity, 13% get it at work, 12% work in the IT sector themselves. 8% of users rely on advice from relatives and friends, and only 5% have studied this subject in educational institutions.
