SberBank Online offers customers instantly issue of medialess cards

The option is now offered in the SberBank Online application. A plastic media is also available if needed.

To issue a medialess card the “Let's do without plastic” option should be selected.

The absence of a physical medium by no means affects the card functionality, while significantly reduces the time necessary for it issuing and receiving.  With the development of contactless payments, the classic bank card gradually recedes into the background and loses its relevance. Increasingly often, we make purchases online, pay with a smartphone and smart watches in retail outlets, and the latest biometric pay-with-your-face solutions require no more than a single glance into the camera. Many of our customers who activated their cards online did not pick up the plastic media from the branches at all, and one in ten new cards of our clients is issued in the digital format. So, by choosing a plastic-free card, customers make their small but important contribution to the preservation of the environment,” said Igor Kovalev, acting director of “Client's Wallet” Division of Sberbank.

 Advantages of the plastic-free card:

• environmental friendliness. Experts say that the time of plastic products degradation can reach 1000 years, while a digital card is absolutely environmentally safe
• instant activation – the card can be used at once
• functionality-wise, it is like plastic card: it allows online and offline payments and transfers, accrual of SberSpasibo reward points, cash withdrawals.

The only difference between this card and a usual one: to pay for purchases offline, you need a smartphone, smart watch, bracelet or any other NFC-enabled gadget.

Besides, the customer may, if necessary, order the usual plastic version of the digital card at any time. To do this, it is enough to select the “Order plastic to the card” option in the card settings in SberBank Online, and you can pick up the card later at any suitable Sberbank office.

At the first stage, the option is available at issue of SberCard and SberCard Travel. In the future, this format will be available for other Sberbank cards.
