We are also working on that. We want Russian tourists to be able to pay with Mir cards in Malaysia. In the meantime, Russians can pay with the UnionPay cards in Malaysian hotels, restaurants and shopping centers,” Iskandar Mirza, Deputy General Director of the National Tourism Office of Malaysia, told the Truly Malaysia Roadshow in Moscow on September 12.

During the event, it became known that 3,450 Russians have visited Malaysia so far this year, with the figure expected to reach 7,000 tourists by the end of 2022.

Alongside Russia, the Mir card can be used now in 11 countries: Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Nigeria, Myanmar, Bahrain, Thailand and Cuba have plans to join the Mir system. The Maldives is mulling this possibility.

At the end of August, it became known that Iran was ready to introduce Mir cards in the coming days. Nicaragua also announced its readiness to discuss the acceptance of Russian Mir cards.
