“Good negotiations have been held between the central banks of Iran and Russia, and I hope that within the next two or three months the integration of the banking networks, as well as the Shetab and Mira systems will be in place,” the official said, adding that this will make it easier for economic operators to do business, while tourists will also be able to use integrated systems.

In late August, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the Mir payment system and the Iranian Shetab system would be reciprocally used in the countries. He said that negotiations are underway between the central banks of Russia and Iran on the integration of both payment systems.

Also in August, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari said that the Russian Mir payment system would start operations in Iran in the near future. According to him, adapting the payment system to Iranian software is one last thing to be done.
