Gazprombank trials digital ruble in budget settlements
Gazprombank, together with the Bank of Russia, the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Treasury, conducted the first pilot operations for budget settlements in digital rubles. Gazprombank is one of four banks that participate in testing this type of operations.
The functionality of payments to the budget in digital rubles, as well as budget transfers to the client's digital ruble account, was tested through the Gazprombank mobile application. For a citizen, the account debiting and crediting are carried out through the client's usual path, while the operation takes place on the digital ruble platform of the Bank of Russia.
In the future, the digital ruble will become a convenient payment instrument that clients will be able to use for transactions, including state budget payments.
Gazprombank Deputy Board Chairman Dmitry Zauers says: “Gazprombank has been participating in the digital ruble pilot since August 2023, actively developing and testing the new functionality. Using the digital ruble in the budget settlements is a large and complex task, but we have already managed to test some operations and establish the necessary integrations.”
According to the Bank of Russia, the introduction of the digital ruble will begin in July 2025. By that time, Gazprombank will be prepared to provide the necessary infrastructure and support regulatory requirements in order to offer the opportunity to conduct operations in the digital ruble to quite a number of clients.
