Dmitry Peskov: Russia is not ready to recognize bitcoin
Russia has no reason to recognize bitcoin, said spokesman for the Presidential office Dmitry Peskov.
According to him, equating cryptocurrency with monetary instruments brings nothing but harm to the financial and economic system.
Peskov also called Bitcoin a quasi-currency. “Beyond any doubt, Russia is not ready for such steps,” said the presidential press secretary.
El Salvador was the first country to adopt bitcoin as a legal tender. Now it can be used for payments on a par with the dollar. The law indicates that the type of exchange will be dictated by the market, all prices can be denominated in cryptocurrency, and it can be used to pay taxes as well. The bitcoin rate reached 52.9 thousand dollars following the news about acquisition of another portion of bitcoins by El Salvador.
