Digital Development Ministry to allocate 21.5 billion rubles to Rostech to develop 5G technology

It is planned to develop an integrated 5G solution to include both cell sites and a core network, for which Rostech is forming a cooperation of Russian companies possessing know-how and expertise.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Rostech signed an agreement on a subsidy of 21.5 billion rubles to be provided to the state corporation for the development of domestic fifth generation (5G) communication technology.
The budget investments in the form of a property contribution of the Russian Federation to Rostech will reach 21.463 billion rubles by 2024. Financial support provided to Rostech is aimed at the development of a system project for the production of 5G / IMT-2020 equipment and ensuring its serial production.

Rostech is also supposed to organize co-financing of the project on at least a one-to-one ratio.

It is planned to develop a comprehensive 5G solution to include both 5G cell sites and a core network, for which Rostech is forming a cooperation of Russian companies possessing know-how and expertise. Besides, a production site will be prepared in the Russian Federation, capable of serial producing of the equipment for 5G networks.

“The agreement with Rostech, a leader among Russian technology companies, will help consolidate the industry's efforts in this area and get a domestic integrated 5G solution ready in 2024. According to the roadmap, investments in the project will amount to some 43 billion rubles, of which 21.463 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal budget,” said Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

In turn, Rostech Head Sergei Chemezov named the project to create domestic solutions in the field of mobile communications in such a short time, one of the main challenges facing Rostech, noting that the financial support will lay the foundation for the emergence of a new industry in the field of mobile technology in the Russian Federation.
