According to the National Bureau of Credit History (NBCH), in April 2022, the average limit on credit cards in issue amounted to 69.8 thousand rubles, an increase of 8.9% compared to the previous month (64.1 thousand rubles in March 2022).

In April 2022, in the regions of the Russian Federation, the largest value of average limit on issued credit cards was reported in Moscow (103.9 thousand rubles), Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District (84.1 thousand rubles), St. Petersburg (84. 0 thousand rubles), the Moscow region (83.6 thousand rubles), and in the Primorsky Territory (76.8 thousand rubles).

An increase in the average credit card limit in April 2022 was reported in most Russian regions. At the same time, compared to the previous month, this indicator grew most in the Khabarovsk Territory (+15.7%), Moscow (+14.2%) and Saratov (+13.7%) regions, as well as in the Altai Territory (+12 .1%) and the Voronezh region (+11.0%). In Moscow and St. Petersburg, the average card limit increased within the month by 9.9% and 8.6%, respectively.

“Compared to March, April saw a slight increase in the issuance of new credit cards and their average limits. In general, the situation in the credit card segment is much better as compared to other type of unsecured lending, i.e. consumer loans, where the issuance and the average check, on the contrary, decreased significantly in March-April. Such dynamics of key indicators for credit cards is largely driven by the fact that banks, using such a tool as card limits, can effectively manage credit risk.
